Alicia D. Master Teaching Artist in Arts-Integration with over fifteen years of experience. She works closely with teachers to plan a successful artist residency.
What is an artist residency with Alicia? Usually, a visit covers a period of weeks, as short as one or as long as five. Alicia will use storytelling, drama, movement, and improvisation to inspire students to write. With pre-k and K Littles, Alicia is trained in WolfTrap strategies to use storytelling, storybox, puppetry, chants, movement, and lots of imagination to to engage Littles in story.
What is arts-integration? Arts integration, defined by the Kennedy Center as "an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject and meets evolving objectives in both."
What are the benefits? There are too many benefits to list! Some include, safe writing environments, reading comprehension, prediction skills, and in-person teacher professional development.
